FBCCI, Competition Commission hold meeting to raise awareness for fair trade

A meeting titled "Informing the Competition Act-2012 and the functions of Bangladesh Competition Commission" was held at the FBCCI conference room on Tuesday (January 20, 2026).

It aimed at creating awareness about fair environment for business and trade and to provide stakeholders with proper understanding of the competition law.

Bangladesh Competition Commission and the FBCCI jointly organized this meeting. The program was presided over by FBCCI Administrator Md. Abdur Rahim Khan. 

Chairperson (Secretary) of Bangladesh Competition Commission AHM Ahsan was also present as chief guest at the meeting.

He told the meeting as chief guest that the The main objective of the Competition Act is not to punish anyone, but to maintain a balanced business environment by preventing anti-competitive activities in the market."

At the beginning of the meeting, Nuruddin Jobayer, Assistant Director of the Commission, gave a detailed presentation on the objectives of the Competition Act, 2012 and the functions of the Competition Commission.

In open discussion, business leaders emphasized on increasing awareness about this law at the field level, especially among businessmen at the districts. They mentioned that it is difficult to comply with the law if there is no clear understanding of it.  At the same time, the business representatives strongly urged for direct involvement of representatives of private sector including FBCCI in formulation of rules, amendments to the law and the hearing process of the Commission.
