The High Court on Sunday issued a contempt of court rule against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin, accusing him of failing to comply with a previous directive to dispose of an application seeking registration of the Krishak Sramik Janata Party as a political party.

The bench, comprising Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Md Ashif Hasan, asked the CEC to explain why contempt charges should not be initiated against him for allegedly violating the court order.
