Facebook and Messenger have been hit by a major outage, as users reported that they were logged out of their accounts and were unable to get back in.

The disruption on Friday affected Facebook’s main platform, including its app and website, while Messenger also appeared to be inaccessible for many users.

Several users said they had been logged out of their accounts, while attempts to sign back in showed an error message saying “an unexpected error occurred”.

Outage tracker Downdetector showed user reports of problems with Facebook and Messenger, while CT Insider reported that Facebook and Instagram users experienced disruptions on Friday morning, citing outage detection services including NordVPN and IsDown.
