The government has decided to provide a 20 per cent electricity bill rebate for farmers and hatcheries to reduce production costs in marginal fish farms, hatcheries, and livestock and poultry farms.

To boost agricultural production, encourage exports, and promote agro-based industries, the 20 per cent rebate is currently offered in 16 sectors under the electricity rebate policy. As part of this, the Finance Division of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock has approved a Tk 100-crore subsidy for four sectors.

This subsidy benefit includes-animal and poultry food manufacturing industry, fish feed production, poultry industry and milk processing industry (milk pasteurization, powdered milk, ice cream, condensed milk, desserts, cheese, ghee, butter, chocolate, yogurt, etc).

It is expected that this government initiative will significantly reduce production costs, increase investment in the industrial sector, and make the country more self-sufficient in the production of safe and quality animal protein.
