Youth stabbed dead in Noakhali over cricket game brawl

A youth was stabbed to death and two others were injured following a dispute over a cricket match in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali district on Friday evening.

The incident took place around 7:00 PM at Rugurampur village under Jirtali union.

The deceased was identified as Arif, son of Siraj Mia of Kutubpur village in the upazila.

According to sources, a brawl broke out between two groups over a cricket match on Thursday (January 30). As sequel to that, Arif was beaten up at a shop near his house in the evening when he tried to resolve the matter.

Later, he was attacked again in Rugurampur village near his home on Friday evening and was seriously injured with a stab wound to his chest.

Locals rushed him to Noakhali General Hospital, where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.

Two of his cousins, Umair, 21 and Omar, 22, were also injured in the attack and are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.

Confirming the incident, Begumganj Police Station officer in-charge (OC) Md Shamsuzzaman said that necessary legal action will be taken once a written complaint is filed.
