One killed, 3 injured in N’ganj BNP factional clash

A local Swechchhasebak Dal leader was killed and three others were injured in a factional clash between two group of BNP at Rupganj upazila in Narayanganj district.

The deceased was identified as Azhar Uddin, 48, senior vice-president of the Swecchasebak Dal’s Ward No-9 unit.

According to sources, the incident occurred on Friday evening at an internal discussion meeting of BNP and its associate bodies at the party office.

During the meeting, an altercation took place between Ward Swechchhasebak Dal president Sabuj and Jubo Dal activist Rajib Hossain over the placement of names in a program list. At one stage, Rajib and his associates allegedly attacked Sabuj and Azhar, leaving Azhar critical injured. He was then taken to a nearby hospital, where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.

Three other injured-- Sabuj, Ripon and Emrat-- are receiving treatment at a local hospital.

Rupganj Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Shabzel Hossain confirmed the incident and said that the body has been sent to Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
