A student of the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) remains missing after going for a swim in the Padma River near the Mawa Ghat area. The missing student has been identified as Abu Naim, a Level-2 student of the Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (NAME) Department at MIST.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Sunday, a group of 18 civilian students from MIST visited the Mawa Ghat area on a recreational trip on January 31. At around 3 pm, they set out on a boat ride on the Padma River. When the boat reached near a sandbar close to Pillar No-4, three students attempted to swim from the boat to the sandbar, located approximately 50 metres away. Shortly after entering the water, the three students encountered difficulties and began shouting for help. Two students who were on the boat and knew how to swim jumped into the river and managed to rescue two of them.

However, before Abu Naim could be rescued, he went under the water and disappeared.

ISPR said that following the incident, the Commandant of MIST immediately informed the chiefs of the Army and Navy, as well as the Bangladesh Coast Guard, Fire Service and Civil Defence, and other relevant agencies.
