Bangladesh Bank will introduce a newly designed Tk 10 banknote into circulation from Tuesday as part of its ongoing effort to modernise national currency designs highlighting the country’s heritage.

In a press statement issued on Monday, the central bank said the new note, signed by Governor Dr Ahsan Habib Mansur, will first be released from its Motijheel headquarters before being distributed through other Bangladesh Bank offices nationwide.

The designed Tk 10 note, measuring 123 millimetres by 60 millimetres, carries a dominant pink tone. On its front, the note showcases the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, accompanied by artistic elements of the national flower, the water lily (shapla), including its leaves and buds. The reverse side features a “Graffiti-2024” motif.

To enhance security, the note contains multiple anti-counterfeiting elements, including a watermark depicting the Royal Bengal Tiger, a bright electrotype ‘10’, and the Bangladesh Bank monogram.

Bangladesh Bank clarified that all existing banknotes and coins will continue to remain legal tender alongside the new Tk 10 note.

For numismatics enthusiasts, the central bank has also produced non-circulating “specimen” versions of the note, which will be available for purchase at a fixed price from the Taka Museum in Mirpur.

The new Tk 10 note is part of a wider currency redesign programme covering all major denominations, ranging from Tk 2 to Tk 1,000. Several of these updated notes have already entered circulation, with others to follow in phases.
