Bangla Sign Language Day observed in Panchagarh

Bangla Sign Language Day was observed in Panchagarh district on Saturday with a colorful rally and a discussion session under the theme “Use of Sign Language, Rights of the Hearing-Impaired.”

The program began with a vibrant procession from the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office, which marched through different streets of the town to raise awareness about the importance of sign language for people with hearing and speech disabilities.

Following the rally, a discussion session was held at the conference hall of the DC office, jointly organised by the District Administration, the District Social Services Office and the Disabled Services and Assistance Center.

The session was presided over by Deputy Director of the District Social Services Office Aniruddha Kumar Roy, while District Commissioner Kazi Md Sayemuzzaman addressed the event as the chief guest.

Disabled Services and Assistance Center officer Mohammad Shahjahan, Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Shoimi Imtiaz, District Child Welfare Officer Aktaruzzaman, Civil Surgeon’s Office Medical Officer Dr Mahbub Rahman Sumon and Director of the National School for the Disabled Zaherul Islam spoke at the session.

Teachers, staff and students from the disabled school, along with differently-abled participants, were also present.

The program concluded with the distribution of hearing aids among several hearing-impaired individuals to support their education and daily communication.
