Bangla Sign Language Day observed in districts

Bangla Sign Language Day was celebrated in Panchagarh and Phulbari on Saturday with colorful rallies and discussion meetings, highlighting the rights of people with speech and hearing disabilities.

PANCHAGARH: The day began with a colorful procession that started in front of the District Administration Office and moved through various streets of the town, drawing attention to the importance of "right to speech" and effective use of sign language.
Following the procession, a discussion meeting was organized in the conference room of the District Administration Office. The event was jointly arranged by the District Administration, the District Social Services Office, and the Disabled Services and Help Center.

District Administrator Md. Sayemuzzaman presided as the chief guest, delivering a keynote speech. The session was chaired by Deputy Director of the District Social Services Office, Unhindered Kumar Roy. Other officials present included Mohammad Shahjahan of the Disabled Services and Help Center, Police Super Shaimi Imtiaz, District Child Affairs Officer Akhtaruzzaman, Civil Surgeon's Office Medical Officer Dr. Mahbub Rahman Suman, and Director of the Country Disabled School, Zahirul Islam.
Speeches focused on promoting awareness of the rights of disabled people, the use of sign language, and the importance of accessible services. The event was attended by teachers, staff members of the disabled school, and people with various disabilities.
The programme concluded with the distribution of hearing aids to selected hearing-impaired participants, emphasizing the commitment to improving accessibility and support for the differently-abled community in Panchagarh.

Phulbari:  The event was organised by the Upazila Disabled Services and Help Center under the theme "Use of Sign Language and Rights of Speech and Hearing Impaired Persons."

 A rally started at the center's office around 11 a.m., moving through major streets of the town before concluding at a discussion session. Upazila Social Services Officer Waliullah Mondal, Youth Development Officer Abdur Rahman, and Headmaster Habibur Rahman Habib spoke at the meeting, which was presided over by Disabled Services Officer Forman Ali. Officials, staff, and beneficiaries of the service center also participated.
