SANTHIA, PABNA, Feb 11: Three people were killed and at least 15 others injured in a head-on collision between two passenger buses in Santhia, Pabna.
One of the deceased has been identified as Kamal Hossain, 42. He was the son of late Abdul Paramanik from Dipchar Village in Pabna Sadar Upazila. The identities of the other two deceased individuals are not yet known.
The accident occurred on Tuesday morning at around 7:15 am at Sholabariya, under AtaiKula Police Station on the Pabna-Dhaka highway.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Madhpur Highway Police Station Mostafizar Rahman confirmed this information. However, locals fear the death toll may rise further.
According to local and police sources, the accident happened when a Shahjadpur Travels bus heading from Pabna to Dhaka collided head-on with a Mascrang Paribahan bus coming from the opposite direction near the Sholabariya bridge.
The driver of Shahjadpur Travels, Kamal Hossain, died on the spot. Two others died after being taken to Pabna Sadar Hospital. The other deceased individual was the helper of the Mascrang Paribahan bus driver.
Police and local residents rescued the injured and sent them to various hospitals for treatment.
