At least 20 people were injured in a violent clash between two rival groups of villagers over alleged dominance at Mayendia Bazar in Faridpur on Saturday.

Mahmudul Hasan, Assistant Superintendent of Police of Saltha-Nagarkanda circle, said the conflict stemmed from a long-standing dispute between Mannan Matubbar, chairman of Poromeshwari union in Boalmari upazila and Tulu Mia and Zihad Mia of Saltha upazila over establishing supremacy in the area.

The confrontation erupted around 10:00 AM at Mayendia Bazar, located between Saltha and Boalmari upazilas, when supporters of the two factions engaged in an altercation.

The situation quickly escalated, with both sides reportedly attacking each other using lethal weapons.

The clash left at least 20 people injured. Several houses were vandalised and set ablaze during the violence.

Police and army personnel rushed to the scene after being informed and managed to bring the situation under control.

Law enforcers also arrested several individuals and recovered locally made weapons, police said.
