
NAOGAON, Feb 15: Of the six parliamentary seats in Naogaon District, five have been won by the BNP and one by Jamaat-e-Islami. All six elected members are going to parliament for the first time.
The newly elected members are: Mostafizur Rahman (BNP) from the Naogaon-1 (Sapahar, Porsha and Niamatpur) constituency; Md. Enamul Haque (Jamaat-e-Islami) from Naogaon-2 (Dhamoirhat and Patnitala); Md. Fazle Huda (BNP) from Naogaon-3 (Badalgachhi and Mahadebpur); Ikramul Bari Tipu (BNP) from Naogaon-4 (Manda); Jahidul Islam Dholu (BNP) from Naogaon-5 (Naogaon Sadar); and Sheikh Md. Rezaul Islam (BNP) from the Naogaon-6 (Atrai-Raninagar) constituency.
According to information from the Naogaon District Returning Officer's office, in Naogaon-1, Mostafizur Rahman won the 'Sheaf of Paddy' symbol with 173,864 votes. His closest rival, Jamaat's candidate Principal Mahbubul Alam, contesting on the 'Scale' symbol, received 153,816 votes. The total number of voters in this seat was 474,065.
In the Naogaon-2 constituency, Md. Enamul Haque won on the 'Scale' symbol with 141,526 votes. His nearest competitor, Shamsuzzoha Khan on the 'Sheaf of Paddy' symbol, polled 134,533 votes. There were 372,436 voters in this seat.
In Naogaon-3, Md. Fazle Huda was victorious on the 'Sheaf of Paddy' symbol with 166,889 votes. His closest rival, Mahfuzur Rahman on the 'Scale' symbol, received 119,421 votes. The number of voters here was 440,785.
In Naogaon-4, Ekramul Bari Tipu polled 133,924 votes on the 'Sheaf of Paddy' symbol. His nearest rival, District Jamaat Ameer Abdur Rakib on the 'Scale' symbol, got 97,585 votes. This constituency had 333,860 voters.
In Naogaon-5, Jahidul Islam Dholu won with 129,385 votes on the 'Sheaf of Paddy' symbol. His closest competitor, District Jamaat Secretary Abu Sadat Mohammad Sayem on the 'Scale' symbol, polled 104,747 votes. The total voters in this seat were 363,030.
In Naogaon-6, Sheikh Md. Rezaul Islam won on the 'Sheaf of Paddy' symbol with 108,866 votes. His nearest rival, Khabirul Islam on the 'Scale' symbol, secured 97,629 votes. There were 345,416 voters in this constituency.
