The newly-elected Members of Parliament from the 13th National Parliament Election took oath on Tuesday (February 17) morning.

Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin administered the oath to the MPs around 10:45AM at the Oath Room of the Sangsad Bhaban.

BNP Chairperson and prime minister-designate Tarique Rahman, along with members of his party, took oath in the first phase. After taking the oath, each member signed the register, writing the name of their respective constituency.

Earlier shortly after 9AM, the elected MPs were seen entering the parliament complex. BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman accompanied by his wife and daughter attended the programme.

Security has been tightened in and around the parliament complex centreing the programme.

A meeting of the BNP parliamentary party was scheduled for 11:30AM at the parliament building following the ceremony.

Typically, the Speaker administers the oaths to MPs, but due to post-uprising circumstances, the Chief Election Commissioner conducted the ceremony in accordance with constitutional provisions.
