Meghmallar Basu, president of Bangladesh Student Union’s Dhaka University unit, has reportedly been hospitalised after a failed suicide attempt by consuming excessive pills.
It was known that he then taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in critical condition on Thursday night and then shifted to Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Assistant Proctor of University of Dhaka, Shehreen Amin Bhuiyan, also shared an emotional post in her verified facebook account, saying she had learned that Meghmallar was hospitalised following a suicide attempt.
“Whatever difficult times he is going through that compelled him to take such a rash decision, I pray he overcomes those and lives to see better and happier days. May he recover soon,” she wrote.
Despite acknowledging political differences with him, she added that her prayers are with him during this difficult time.
Alongside the proctor several young leaders, his political rivals, like Nasiruddin Patwary and Fatima Tasnim Zuma, also acknowledged the incident warning others not to criticise the incident.
Further details about his condition and the circumstances surrounding the incident were not immediately available.
