Domestic worker held over 'killing'hosewife

A 62-year-old housewife, Ayesha Akter, was killed after a woman posing as a domestic help allegedly administered sedatives to an elderly couple and looted gold ornaments and cash from their residence at Uttara in the capital. 

The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) solved the case within 24 hours and arrested two people in connection with the incident. The arrestees are domestic worker Bilkis Begum, 40, and jewellery shop owner Robiul Awal, 53, who allegedly purchased the stolen gold.

PBI's Additional Deputy Inspector General (Add DIG) Dhaka Metro (North) Md Enayet Hossain Mannan disclosed the information at a press briefing held at Bhanga Mosque in West Agargaon on Sunday.

He said Bilkis took the job at a house under Uttara West Police Station using the names "Mumtaz" and "Marufa" for a monthly salary of Tk 5,000, without submitting her National ID card on February 14.

On February 17, when only Ayesha Akter and her husband Anwar Hossain, 68, were home, Bilkis allegedly mixed 10 sedative tablets with water and made them drink it. In the evening, their son Md Zakaria Hossain found his mother unconscious and his father seriously ill. Ayesha was declared dead at Lubana General Hospital, while Anwar remains in the ICU, Enayet Hossain Mannan said.
