A Dhaka court on Monday imposed a travel ban on the former principal secretary to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) Abul Kalam Azad following a petition by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The order was issued by Judge Md Sabbir Foyez of the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge’s Court as allegations of abuse of power and accumulation of illicit wealth against Azad are under investigation.

The ACC told the court that there is credible information suggesting Azad may attempt to leave the country, which could hamper the ongoing probe. Following the hearing, the court granted the ACC’s request and barred him from foreign travel until further notice.
