AMTALI, BARGUNA, Feb 23 Mahmudul Hossain Oli Ullah, lawmaker from Barguna-1, has said no form of extortion will be allowed in Amtali, Taltali, or Barguna Sadar.

He made the remarks at an exchange meeting with local residents and party leaders at the Amtali Qawmi Madrasa auditorium on Monday morning during his visit to the upazila following his oath-taking as an MP.

Oli Ullah said he came to his constituency to meet residents, party activists, and local officials. During the visit, he also held a courtesy meeting with police at Amtali Police Station and interacted with people along the main roads of the municipal town.

He urged people to consider him a public servant rather than addressing him as an MP, saying he is responsible for serving nearly 600,000 residents of the constituency.

The lawmaker claimed that extortion had already declined in Barguna, Amtali, and Taltali following his election. "Not a single taka of extortion will be allowed in Barguna-1. The constituency will be declared free of extortion and drugs within the next three months," he said.

He also warned that strict action would be taken against drug-related activities and vowed to eliminate drugs from the grassroots level. Addressing watermelon farmers, he urged them to inform him immediately if anyone demanded extortion.

Among others, Amtali Upazila unit Islami Andolan President Maulana Omar Faruk Jihadi, Secretary Gazi Md Bayezid, and Maulana Md Shah Alam spoke at the meeting.

After the programme, the MP visited Amtali Upazila Health Complex and later exchanged greetings with local residents at Gazipur Bazar.
