Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Mian has underscored the need to align Bangla with advanced technology, saying effective steps must be taken now to preserve the language in a technology-driven world.

He made the remarks on Saturday while presiding over a discussion and prize-giving ceremony organised by the district administration to mark Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day.

Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Dr Mohammad Ziauddin attended the programme as the chief guest. Senior officials from various government departments, distinguished citizens, and students were also present.

"Technology cannot be pushed aside. Rather, we must establish control over technology through our own language," Zahidul said.

"Our pride, our hope-Bangla. It is the expression of our soul and the development of our identity," he added.

Recalling the sacrifices of the 1952 Language Movement martyrs-Salam, Barkat, Rafiq, and Jabbar-he said it is the nation's responsibility to uphold the honour earned through their blood.

He noted that Bangla is the language that brought the first Nobel Prize to Asia and cited UNESCO data showing that one language disappears every 14 days among the world's nearly 7,000 languages-a trend he described as alarming.
