Four police personnel have been suspended following allegations of assaulting a Dhaka University student during an anti-narcotics operation at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital.
Md Masud Alam, Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ramna Division, confirmed the suspensions on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the official, the incident occurred after a verbal altercation between the officers and the student escalated during the operation. Masud described the situation as an unfortunate outcome resulting from excessive reactions on both sides during the exchange.
The four officers who were on duty at the time of the incident have been placed on closed status, a form of temporary suspension from active service.
The deputy commissioner confirmed that departmental proceedings will be initiated against the suspended personnel.
