Police have arrested another suspect in connection with the alleged rape of a woman with intellectual disabilities in Bhola’s Tajumuddin upazila on Tuesday.
The arrested was identified as Al Amin alias Samrat.
According to police, they conducted a drive in the morning and arrested Al Amin from his residence.
Earlier on Sunday night (22 February), the victim, a 25-year-old woman, was returning home after attending a kirtan (a religious event) at an ashram in Aralia village around 9:00 PM.
On the way back home, she was abducted and taken to the banks of the Meghna river, where she was violated throughout the night.
Later, locals rescued her from near a house in Daspara area, took her to Tajumuddin Upazila Health Complex and later she was admitted to Bhola General Hospital for better treatment.
Following the incident, a case has been filed against three main accused, Rakib, Shakil and Rasel on Monday afternoon. Two suspects, Rakib and Jewel, were arrested earlier. A total of three suspects have been held in the case.
Tajumuddin Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Abdus Salam confirmed the arrest and said that Juwel was arrested on suspicion of aiding the trio.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Shahidullah Kawsar said police identified the suspects based on the survivor’s description.
