BCG arrests nine pirates, saves 4 fishermen in Cox's Bazar

COX'S BAZAR, Feb 25: Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) arrested Jahangir, 28, leader of a notorious gang, and eight of his associates during an operation off the Maheshkhali coast in Cox's Bazar, recovering weapons and ammunition. Four fishermen trapped by the robbers were rescued alive along with their fishing boat.

Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan, Media Officer of the Coast Guard, confirmed the incident on Wednesday.

He said the robbery occurred around 4:00 pm on February 24 near Sonadia Char under Maheshkhali police station when the fishing boat "FB Mayer Doya-3" was attacked by robbers. 

The matter was reported to the Coast Guard through the emergency number. Following the report, a joint rescue operation was launched by Cox's Bazar and Maheshkhali Coast Guard stations.
