‘Postal dept to work to deliver services at people’s doorsteps’

Postal department will work with priority to deliver government services to people’s doorsteps by highlighting its success and capacity before the public, said Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Fakir Mahbub Anam Swapan.

He made the remarks on Sunday while speaking at an introductory and exchange-of-views meeting with officials of the Directorate General of Posts at the Postal Building in the capital’s Agargaon.

He said that postal department is no longer confined to the exchange of letters but has transformed into a modern, multi-dimensional service network.

“The successful delivery of postal ballots has demonstrated the department’s efficiency, sense of responsibility and institutional capability,” he added.

The minister also said that by effectively utilising the countrywide postal network and its large workforce, it is possible to ensure modern and reliable services even at the grassroots level. “To achieve this, timely reforms, modernisation and technology-driven initiatives are essential,” he said.

Speaking as a special guest, Posts and Telecommunications Division Secretary Abdus Naser Khan said the Bangladesh Postal Department has been providing fast and reliable services even in remote areas of the country. “Its role in distributing election ballots and conducting emergency operations is commendable,” he said.

He added that initiatives have been taken to introduce modern technology, improve address management systems, enhance officials’ training and modernise outdated laws and ordinances related to the postal sector.

The meeting, chaired by Director General of Posts Kazi Asadul Islam, was attended by officials and employees of the Postal Department.
