PUTHIA, RAJSHAHI, Mar 3: Three shopkeepers have been fined Tk 20,000 in Puthia, Rajshahi, for selling fertiliser at higher prices and creating an artificial crisis by not supplying fertiliser to farmers.
The fines were imposed through a mobile court on Monday afternoon.
The mobile court operation was conducted at fertiliser shops in Kartikpara Bazaar, Shilmariya Union, Puthia Upazila, led by Puthia Upazila Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Liakat Salman, with overall assistance from Upazila Agriculture Officer Smriti Rani Sarkar.
During the operation, three shopkeepers were fined Tk 20,000 for the offences of not supplying fertiliser to farmers and selling it at inflated prices. Subsequently, fertiliser from their stocks was sold to farmers at government-set prices at the location. The farmers procured fertiliser from the shops according to their demand.
UNO Liakat Salman stated that such drives in the public interest will continue regularly.
