Dhaka University (DU) has expelled three students for six months following their involvement in harassing two men and two women at Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) area during the early hours of February 24.
Proctor Professor Saifuddin Ahmed issued the expulsion order based on recommendations from an investigation committee, exercising the powers granted under university regulations.
The expelled students are Shahriar Islam Tushar of Theatre and Performance Studies department, Rakib Ahmed of World Religions and Culture department and Shahriar Tanzil of Anthropology department.
The incident occurred during pre-dawn hours at TSC area, a central location on the DU campus. Following an investigation by a university-appointed committee, a six-month expulsion was recommended.
The expulsion order was publicly announced by Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, director of the university’s Public Relations Office.
The six-month expulsion prohibits the students from attending classes, entering campus premises and participating in any university activities during this period.
The decision underscores the university administration’s commitment to maintaining discipline and ensuring the safety of all individuals on campus.
This action comes amid increased scrutiny of universities across Bangladesh regarding campus safety, particularly the treatment of women and protection of students from harassment and violence.
