Police have recovered the body of a rickshaw puller from the Bhairab River in Khulna, three days after he went missing.
There are no injury marks on the body of deceased Hanif Sheikh, 35. He was the son of Aziz Sheikh and a rickshaw puller by profession. He drives a rickshaw from evening to night every day and returns home in the morning after bathing in the Bhairab River.
His body was recovered from Khulna's jail Kheya Ghat early Saturday and was sent to Khulna Medical College and Hospital for an autopsy.
Locals said that they found the body of a man in a floating condition in the Bhairab River shortly after Sehri.
They then informed the local police station, who in turn informed the naval police. The naval police reached the spot and recovered the body from the river.
Babul Akhter, officer-in-charge of Khulna Sadar Police Station, stated, "We went to the spot after receiving the news around 5AM and informed the family. Later, the family members came to the spot."
Last Thursday, when he went down to the Bhairab River for bathing and went missing in the strong current of the river.
That day, the Fire Service diving team and local divers carry out rescue operations at various places in the Bhairab River but was not able to rescue him.
