Body of cattle trader recovered two days after missing

The body of a cattle trader, who went missing while crossing a river in Habiganj’s Chunarughat upazila, was recovered from the Khoai River on Saturday, two days after he disappeared.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Jalil, a cattle trader from Khetamara village under Gazipur union in the upazila.

According to locals, Jalil went missing on Thursday evening (Mar 12) while attempting to cross the Khoai River with cattle near the Courtbari sand extraction spot in Ahmadabad union.

After he disappeared, locals began searching for him and informed the authorities.

A diving team from the Fire Service, along with members of the local administration, carried out a rescue operation but failed to locate him on the first day. The search continued the following day without success.

Finally, on Saturday afternoon, locals spotted a body floating along one side of the river and informed the authorities.

Being informed, law enforcement personnel later recovered the body, which was identified as that of the missing trader.

Chunarughat Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Md Shafiqul Islam said the body has been recovered and will be handed over to the family after completing necessary legal formalities.

He added that authorities are taking steps to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
