Prime Minister (PM) Tarique Rahman has reaffirmed that Bangladesh's independence was fundamentally rooted in creating a nation free from discrimination while pursuing democratic values, peace, and economic prosperity.

Addressing the nation ahead of the Great Independence and National Day celebrations scheduled for March 26, the PM called for collective commitment to advance the country's development trajectory.

His message was issued on Tuesday through the state news agency.

Tarique stressed that accelerating national progress requires citizens to embrace unity, mutual tolerance, and patriotic devotion.

He urged the countrymen to internalize these principles as essential foundations for continued advancement.

"On this occasion of the Great Independence and National Day, I convey sincere greetings and congratulations to all Bangladeshis domestically and those residing overseas," the PM stated in his message.

He characterized March 26 as a momentous and historic milestone in the nation's journey, paying tribute to those who made ultimate sacrifices to secure an independent and sovereign Bangladesh. The Prime Minister honored these national heroes with profound respect.

Tarique also acknowledged the contributions of freedom fighters who participated in the Liberation War alongside mothers and sisters who endured oppression during the independence struggle.

He recognized all individuals who dedicated themselves to achieving national sovereignty.

The PM offered prayers for the eternal peace of martyred souls who laid down their lives for the country's liberation.

Drawing upon Independence Day's symbolic significance, Tarique challenged citizens to commit themselves to national welfare from their respective positions in society.

He envisioned collaborative efforts toward constructing a developed, prosperous, and dignified Bangladesh.

The statement concluded with the Prime Minister extending best wishes for all events and programs organized to commemorate the Great Independence and National Day, encouraging meaningful participation across the nation.

March 26 marks the anniversary of Bangladesh's declaration of independence, a pivotal moment that led to the creation of the sovereign nation following the Liberation War.
