The Shipping Ministry has set up a six-member committee to investigate the incident at Daulatdia Ferry Ghat in Rajbari, where a passenger bus fell into the Padma River while boarding a ferry, causing multiple casualties.

The committee will probe the cause of the accident and identify those responsible.

Additional Secretary of the ministry, Md. Muhidul Islam, has been appointed as the convener.

Other members include representatives from the Deputy Commissioner of Rajbari, River Police, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) and the Department of Fire Service and Civil Defence, according to a PID handout.

The committee has been tasked with submitting its report within three working days.

Based on its findings, appropriate action will be taken against those responsible, and measures will be introduced to prevent similar incidents in the future.
