Rescue teams have recovered 26 bodies following a tragic accident in which a passenger bus plunged into the Padma River at Daulatdia Ferry Ghat in Rajbari.
By 5 AM on Thursday, 23 bodies had been retrieved.
Later, bodies of Uzzal Khan, 30, Ashraful, 35, and Jahangir, 55, were recovered between 9 am and 11:15 AM.
Deputy Director of Rajbari Fire Service and Civil Defence, Dewan Sohel Rana, said, “Fifteen divers from five fire service units are working in the recovery operation, supported by local administration and law enforcement personnel.”
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sathi Das added that 23 of the recovered bodies have already been handed over to the families, while the remaining three are in the process of being returned.
The accident occurred around 5:30 PM on Wednesday when the passenger bus of Souhardho Paribahan fell from Pontoon no. 3 into the river.
According to local and police sources, around 50 passengers were on board at the time.
