Authorities in Chattogram seized around 6,000 litres of illegally stored diesel during a special raid targeting unlawful fuel storage and trading at Patenga area on Friday.

The drive was conducted at approximately 10:45 AM based on credible intelligence and was led by Executive Magistrate Subrata Haldar, with joint participation from Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) and Bangladesh Police.

During the operation, officials recovered 30 drums of hoarded diesel. However, no individuals were found at the scene.

The seized fuel has been taken into police custody and legal proceedings are being initiated under the Special Powers Act, 1974.

Preliminary investigations indicate that an organised group had been siphoning fuel from sea-going vessels and storage depots before supplying it illegally to local traders.

The district administration reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining order in the fuel sector, ensuring uninterrupted supply and preventing illegal stockpiling.

Authorities also stated that depots, petrol pumps and related businesses are under strict monitoring, and similar operations will continue.

The information was confirmed in a statement issued by Muhammad Arif Sadeq, Information and Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources.
