10 DU depts gain global recognition in QS 2026 rankings

Ten departments of Dhaka University (DU) have earned global recognition in QS World University Subject Rankings 2026, marking the highest number of departments from any Bangladeshi university to feature in the prestigious list, according to UK-based Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). 

Last year, nine DU departments were ranked.

QS released the rankings on Wednesday (March 25). The list is divided into broad subject categories and narrow subject disciplines. 

Dhaka University secured positions in three of the five broad categories and featured in 10 narrow subject areas.

In the Social Sciences & Management category, DU ranked 371st globally, the highest among Bangladeshi universities. Within this category, Accounting & Finance placed between 301"375, Economics & Econometrics between 301"350, and Business & Management Studies between 401"450.

In the Natural Sciences category, DU was the only Bangladeshi university to be ranked, placing between 501"550 globally. 

Specific departments ranked as follows: Chemistry 551"600, Environmental Sciences 401"450 and Physics & Astronomy 501"550. In the narrow subject area of Biological Sciences, DU ranked 651"700 globally.

In Engineering & Technology, DU ranked 364th worldwide, with Computer Science & Information Systems 551"600, Electrical & Electronic Engineering 501"550 and Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing Engineering 501"575.
