Teenager killed in motorcycle crash in capital

A college student was killed after the motorcycle he was riding was struck by a vehicle in the Tejgaon area of the capital.
The deceased, Mohammad Imon, 18, was a Class XI student at a local college. His friend, Omar Faruk, 20, sustained injuries in the incident.

Imon was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition at around 2:30 am on Saturday, where the on-duty doctor in the emergency department declared him dead.

He hailed from the Manda area of Mugda. His father, the late Hazrat Ali, is deceased.

Confirming the incident, Mahmudur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Tejgaon Industrial Police Station, said police are investigating the incident and attempting to identify the vehicle involved.

A passer-by, Sharif Hasan, who helped take the victims to hospital, said the crash occurred late at night in front of Saudan Group Road in Tejgaon while the two youths were travelling on a motorcycle. A vehicle struck their bike, leaving them seriously injured.

They were rescued and taken to hospital, where doctors confirmed Imon's death.

Md Faruk, Inspector in charge of the police camp at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said the injured friend is currently receiving treatment in the emergency department. The body has been kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy, and the matter has been reported to the relevant police station.
