Woman killed after passenger bus overturns in Barishal

A woman was killed and three others injured after a passenger bus overturned and fell into a roadside ditch on the Dhaka-Barishal highway in Barishal’s Gournadi upazila early Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Ity Chakraborty, 35, wife of Gurudas Chakraborty, a resident of Kaunia area in Barishal city.

According to locals, the incident occurred around 5:00 AM in Batajor area when a Barishal-bound Greenview Paribahan bus lost control and plunged into a ditch, injuring four individuals.

Being informed, fire service officials rescued them and sent them to Gournadi Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctors declared Ity dead.

Later, the injured were referred to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal for further treatment.

Gournadi Highway Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Md Shamim Sheikh confirmed the incident and said that the bus has been seized.

Legal action is underway, added the OC.
