The investigation into alleged killings during a 2013 mass rally by Hefazat-e-Islam at Dhaka's Shapla Chattar is in its final stages, with a report to be submitted soon, the International Crimes Tribunal's (ICT) Chief Prosecutor, Md. Aminul Islam, announced on Tuesday.

The announcement came shortly after the International Crimes Tribunal-1 ordered former Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Abdul Jalil Mondal, to be sent to prison in connection with the case.

Following the court's directive, the chief prosecutor told journalists that the probe into the "Shapla Chattar massacre" was nearing completion and the findings would be filed swiftly.

Chief Prosecutor Islam also signaled a broader scope for future prosecutions, stating that all past incidents of "crossfire" -a term often used to describe extrajudicial killings by law enforcement- will be scrutinized and brought before the tribunal for trial.

He further added that anyone implicated in crimes against humanity during the "One-Eleven" period, which refers to the 2007-2008 military-backed caretaker government, will also be brought to justice.
