Two ex-UCBL directors sent to jail

CHATTOGRAM, Mar 31: A Chattogram court ordered to send two former directors of United Commercial Bank (UCB) to jail in a case filed over the embezzlement and laundering of a loan worth Tk 25 crore.

The court of Chittagong Divisional Special Judge Mizanur Rahman gave the order on Tuesday. They earlier surrendered before the same court and applied for bail. The accused are former UCBL director Aparup Chowdhury, 65, and Towhid Shipar Rafiquzzaman, 66.

ACC Public Prosecutor (PP) Mokarram Hossain said that former UCBL directors Aparup Chowdhury and Towhid Sipar Rafiquzzaman, accused in the ACC case on charges of embezzling Tk 250 million and smuggling it abroad through hundi, have applied for bail.
