Rail communication between Sylhet and the rest of the country has been temporarily halted after an oil tanker train derailed in Habiganj on Wednesday night.

The matter was confirmed to media by Sylhet Railway Station Manager Mohammad Nurul Islam.

According to local sources, the Sylhet-bound oil tanker train, numbered 951, derailed near Shahpur Station shortly after crossing Montola Station.

Several wagons went off the tracks and overturned, causing significant damage to the railway line and forcing authorities to suspend train operations on the route.

Railway officials quickly arrived at the scene and began rescue and recovery operations.

However, no immediate information was available regarding casualties or the extent of the damage.

Officials stated that train services will resume once the recovery efforts and track repairs are completed.
