The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate on Thursday urged the public to remain alert against fraudulent activities carried out using fake identities of Bangladesh Army and Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) officials.

According to an ISPR release, necessary steps are underway to bring the fraudsters to justice.

The release stated that a group of fraudsters has been threatening people over mobile phones by impersonating military officers of various ranks, including Brigadier General and Lieutenant Colonel, as well as DGFI officials.

The group is reportedly collecting photos of army officers in uniform from various websites and using these images on WhatsApp profiles to gain public trust and carry out deception.

The ISPR categorically clarified that the Bangladesh Army and all intelligence agencies do not communicate with individuals in this manner.

The release advised victims to immediately inform the nearest law enforcement agency and provide the mobile number of the caller if anyone claiming to be a high-ranking military official attempts to threaten or seek any benefit via phone or message.
