An alleged leader of a teenage gang, known as Alex Iman, was killed in a violent clash between two rival groups over territorial control in Mohammadpur on Sunday afternoon.
The incident took place around 4:30 PM on the slope of Beribadh road in Rayerbazar Boddhijibi area, under Mohammadpur Police Station, according to Jewel Rana, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Tejgaon Division.
Police said Iman, identified as the leader of the “Alex Group” and an accused in multiple cases including murder, was critically injured during the clash.
He was rushed to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment in the emergency department.
Following the clash, members of Rayerbazar Police Outpost conducted a drive and arrested three suspects from the scene.
The detainees; Saif, 23, Tuhin, 20, and Rabbi Kazi, 25, are believed to be members of a rival group.
Law enforcement officials also recovered several weapons from their possession, including three machetes, a cutter and a steel plate.
Assistant Commissioner of Mohammadpur Zone under Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Abdullah Al Mamun, said Alex Iman was a listed gang leader in the Rayerbazar area and faced multiple criminal charges, including snatching and murder.
He added that police are continuing their investigation.
Local sources said the violence stemmed from a long-standing rivalry between the Alex Iman group and Arman"Shahrukh group over territorial dominance.
Sunday’s clash was reportedly a continuation of that feud, during which Iman suffered fatal injuries from sharp weapons.
Iman’s body has been kept at the hospital morgue.
Locals also alleged that several others; including Shahrukh, Arman, Khailla Badal, Kallu, Yasin, Chiku Shakil, Bhandari Iman and Neket Shakil, were involved in the incident.
