DU appoints Prof Abdus Salam as Pro-VC (Academic)

Dhaka University (DU) has appointed Prof Dr Abdus Salam, acting dean of the Faculty of Science, as the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) of the university.

The appointment was confirmed through a notification issued on Monday by the Ministry of Education, signed by Deputy Secretary ASM Kashem, following approval from the President, who is also the Chancellor of the university.

According to the notification, the appointment has been made under Article 13(1) of the Dhaka University Order, 1973 and will take effect from the date he assumes office.

Prof Salam will receive salary, allowances and other benefits equivalent to his current position, in line with the regulations applicable to the post.

The order also requires him to reside on the university campus full-time as part of his responsibility as a senior administrative officer.

However, this notification added that the Chancellor retains the authority to revoke his appointment at any time in the public interest.
