The stage is set for the inauguration of the 'Cute Natore District Women's Handball League 2026', scheduled to commence today (Tuesday) at the Bir Shreshtha Noor Mohammad Stadium in Natore.
The tournament, organised under the supervision of the Bangladesh Handball Federation, is being hosted by the Natore District Sports Association (DSA) with sponsorship from Moushumi Industries Limited (Cute).
The opening ceremony will be graced by Dr Mohammad Abdul Salam, Deputy Commissioner of Natore also President of the DSA, will inaugurate the tournament as the chief guest. The key officials from the federation, including members of its technical committee and district representatives, will also be present.
A total of 16 women's handball teams will participate in the competition, divided evenly into four groups, promising a competitive and vibrant contest. The participating teams represent a mix of sports academies, clubs, and social organisations from across the district, reflecting the growing grassroots enthusiasm for women's handball.
In Group A, teams such as Duranta Women's Sports Academy and Natore Tarun Sangha Club will vie for early advantage. Group B features Rokon Kachari Milan Smriti Sangha and Cosmos Club, while Group C includes Warrior Club Natore and Mohila Krirangon Kalyan Samity. Group D will see City Sports Club and Adarsha Yuba Unnayan Sangha battle for supremacy.
The organisers believe this initiative will help promote women's participation in handball at the district level. With structured competition and institutional backing, the league aims to identify emerging talent and strengthen the sport's development pipeline.
As the curtain rises, anticipation runs high. Much like a well-orchestrated attack on the court, the league aspires to pass, pivot, and propel women's handball in Bangladesh to greater heights.
