JU launches ‘Doors for Inclusive Society’ for disabled students

Jahangirnagar University (JU) has officially launched the activities of its chapter of “Doors for Inclusive Society” (DIS), an initiative aimed at supporting students with physical disabilities.

The programme was inaugurated on Wednesday around 4:00 PM by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan at the seminar room of Wazed Miah Science Research Centre on campus.

Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor said that while physical ability enables mobility, inner strength plays a more important role in achieving excellence in knowledge, thought and morality. 

He further added that individuals facing physical challenges often demonstrate deeper insight and understanding.

He also said that physical disability does not prevent a person from achieving completeness and reaffirmed the university administration’s commitment to making the institution more accessible and disability-friendly, with the goal of transforming JU into a world-class university.

With support from Physically Challenged Development Foundation (PDF), DIS also launched a Braille-based Holy Quran learning course during the event. 

Scholarships, smartphones and white canes were distributed among students, while gifts were also given to volunteers.

Several faculty members and student representatives attended the programme, including Prof. Nurul Huda Sakib from Department of Government and Politics, Prof. KM Mohiuddin, Associate Prof. Afsana Haque from Department of Urban and Regional Planning, along with JUCSU Vice President Abdur Rashid Jitu and General Secretary Ferdous Al Hasan.
