TANGAIL, Apr 16: A newborn's mother died due to complications after a cesarean operation in a private hospital in Kalihati Upazila of the district.
Police and family sources said that Shirina Akhter of Pakutia Village in Nagbari Union of the upazila was admitted to the M Rahman Hospital in the Upazila Sadar on March 25. On that day, her cesarean section was completed under the supervision of Dr Mirufa Tanjin Sumi and a baby girl was born. Later, she returned home from the hospital on March 28.
Relatives alleged that Shirina's physical condition deteriorated and she was readmitted to the same clinic on April 8. There, she underwent another surgery on April 12.
As her condition deteriorated further, she was sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where she died on Monday.
The victim's family claims that during the first operation, gauze was left inside the patient's stomach due to the doctor's negligence, due to which her condition deteriorated and eventually she died.
Officer-in-Charge of Kalihati Police Station Taufiq Azam said that necessary legal action will be taken after investigation if any complaint is received.
