Dhaka University’s (DU) proctorial patrol operations have been disrupted for two consecutive days due to the breakdown of its patrol vehicles, raising concerns over campus security.

According to proctorial office sources, the main patrol jeep developed suspension problem, while electric shuttle operated under the ‘Green Future Foundation’ also became inoperative due to mechanical faults. As a result, the team has been left without any functional vehicle since Thursday.

The vehicles remained at a repair garage in the capital till Saturday, while patrol activities remained suspended.

Students expressed concern over reduced surveillance in sensitive areas such as the Central Shaheed Minar and surrounding zones. Some students alleged that incidents like mugging and drug-related activities occur in those areas, highlighting the need for regular patrols.

Proctorial office assistant Yusuf Harun said repair work is being delayed due to budgetary reasons. “At present, members of the proctorial team are using rickshaws to respond to emergency situation,” he added.

DU Proctor Prof Saifuddin Ahmed confirmed the disruption, saying efforts are underway to restore the vehicle quickly. “We hope to resume normal patrol operations soon,” he said.

Currently, security on campus is limited to stationed guards at key entry points.
