The National Citizens Party (NCP) has initiated organisational preparations for the upcoming local government elections, announcing candidates for five city corporations and indicating that nominations for the remaining seven will be declared shortly.

Party sources confirmed that candidate selection is being finalised through internal consultations, with an emphasis on expanding organisational presence at the local level. The NCP has already declared nominees for Dhaka South, Dhaka North, Comilla, Rajshahi and Sylhet city corporations.

At a press conference held on 29 March, party convener and opposition chief whip in the National Parliament Nahid Islam formally announced the initial list of candidates. According to the announcement, NCP spokesperson Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan will contest for the mayoral post in Dhaka South City Corporation, while senior joint convener and North Metropolitan convener Ariful Islam Adeeb will run for Dhaka North City Corporation.

In other nominations, Jatiya Juba Shakti convener Tariqul Islam has been selected for Comilla City Corporation, Metropolitan NCP convener Md Mobasher Ali for Rajshahi City Corporation, and Metropolitan NCP convener Abdur Rahman Afzal for Sylhet City Corporation.

Meanwhile, the party is considering northern region chief organiser Sarjis Alam as a potential candidate for Rangpur City Corporation. Sarjis Alam previously contested the 13th National Parliament election from Panchagarh 1 as a candidate of the eleven party alliance but was unsuccessful.
