Probe body formed over alleged procurement irregularities in Parliament

Speaker Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Bir Bikram, has constituted a five-member investigation committee to examine the veracity of media reports alleging widespread irregularities in procurement by the National Parliament Secretariat.

The committee has been directed to submit its findings within seven working days.

The development was confirmed through a press release issued on Tuesday and signed by Md. Monir Hossain, Director of the Parliament Secretariat's Public Relations Branch.

According to the release, a report headlined "Wholesale Plunder in Parliamentary Procurement" was published on April 19, and upon the matter coming to the attention of the highest parliamentary authority, the Speaker formed the investigative body on Tuesday.

The committee will be convened by Whip A.B.M. Ashraf Uddin (Nizam), with Lutfullahel Majed, Md. Saiful Alam, Hummam Quader Chowdhury, and Md. Abul Hasnat (Hasnat Abdullah) serving as members.

The committee has been tasked with conducting an on-site investigation into the alleged procurement irregularities and submitting a full report within seven working days of its formation.
