Five river police personnel, including the outpost in-charge, were injured in a shooting incident while patrolling in the Padma River in Kushtia early Wednesday.
The incident took place between approximately 1:10AM and 1:50AM when the patrol team reached the Haripur point from the Laxmikunda Naval Police Outpost. A gang of armed assailants attacked them.
According to reports, the attackers opened fire on the team during a routine patrol, prompting a gunfight between the two groups. Five policemen, including outpost in-charge Khandakar Shafiqul Islam, sustained bullet injuries.
The injured were initially taken to Pabna Sadar Hospital. One of them was, later, referred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital due to critical condition.
The other injured police members have been identified as Enamul Haque, Shahinur Haque, Nazmul Hasan and Manik Mia, all of whom are stationed at the same naval police outpost.
Additional Superintendent of Pabna Police Md Mashiur Rahman said, ''Additional forces have been deployed in the area following the incident, and our drives are on to identify and apprehend those responsible.
