Bangladesh sends emergency medical aid to Iran

Bangladesh has sent emergency medical relief supplies to Iran following a directive from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

The aid was formally handed over in Dhaka to Iranian Ambassador Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi by Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) for onward dispatch to Iran on Thursday, according to a statement from Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The assistance, coordinated through BDRCS, includes essential medicines and medical equipment intended for people affected by the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.

At the handover ceremony held at Iranian Embassy in Dhaka, Foreign Ministry Secretary (Bilateral) Dr Md Nazrul Islam and Director General of West Asia Wing Md Humayun Kabir were present on behalf of the government.

Earlier, on April 6, the Prime Minister provided a Tk1 crore grant to Bangladesh Red Crescent Society to procure urgent medical supplies for Iran.

Dr Nazrul Islam expressed concern over the humanitarian impact of the conflict and reiterated Bangladesh’s support for peace, urging a diplomatic resolution to restore stability in the region.

Iranian Ambassador Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for the humanitarian initiative. 

He also thanked Bangladesh for its solidarity during this difficult time and highlighted the friendly relations between the two countries.

BDRCS Secretary General Dr Kabir M Ashraf Alam said the organization remains committed to supporting people in crisis worldwide, adding that it is a humanitarian responsibility to assist Iran during this difficult period.
