National Life Insurance Plc (NLI) marked its 42nd founding anniversary on Thursday with a series of celebratory events, highlighting more than four decades of steady expansion, financial resilience and a reputation built on customer trust.
The day-long programme began with balloon releases and a ceremonial cake-cutting, concluding with an open discussion at the company’s head office, NLI Tower in Kawran Bazar, Dhaka.
Employees from across the organisation, alongside policyholders, gathered to reflect on the insurer’s journey since its inception in 1985.
Framing the milestone as a springboard for future growth, NLI unveiled an ambitious plan to exceed Tk 3,000 crore in premium income through a nationwide expansion drive. The strategy hinges on strengthening customer confidence, ensuring disciplined claims settlement and upholding service integrity�"cornerstones of the company’s long-standing business model.
The event was attended by Chairman Tofazzal Hossain, former Chairman Mahmudul Haque Taher, Directors Razia Sultana, Nahrin Rahman and Md. Masud Hossain, along with Chief Executive Officer Md. Kazim Uddin and Deputy Managing Director & CFO Probir Chandra Das, among other senior officials.
Addressing the gathering, Chairman Tofazzal Hossain underscored NLI’s pioneering status as the country’s first private life insurer, citing its consistent adherence to honesty, dignity and client commitments as the driving force behind its sustained growth.
“Following our success, private entrepreneurs have increasingly entered the life insurance sector, helping lift national life insurance assets to Tk 46,004 crore,” he said.
Over the years, the company has played a notable role in mobilising savings, supporting investment, generating employment and contributing to Bangladesh’s economic development.
“Our foremost objective is to earn and sustain customer trust,” the Chairman said. “We uphold that trust through prompt and transparent claims settlement, and this discipline will remain uncompromising.”
NLI is now leveraging its strong track record of timely claims payments�"often viewed as a weak link in the wider insurance sector�"to deepen policyholder confidence and accelerate business growth.
By 2025, according to official sources, the insurer had brought approximately 7.5 million people under coverage. It reported cumulative premium income of Tk 21,320 crore, claims payments totalling Tk 12,220 crore, a life fund of Tk 7,018 crore, assets worth Tk 7,751 crore and investments of around Tk 6,241 crore.
The company employs about 5,000 salaried staff and supports nearly 200,000 livelihoods directly and indirectly.
In recognition of its performance, NLI has received national awards from the Government of Bangladesh for the highest claims settlement for two consecutive years�"2023 and 2024�"alongside distinctions as a top taxpayer and multiple national and international accolades for its contribution to the economy.
