Couple 'commits suicide' at Derai

DERAI, SUNAMGANJ, Apr 26: A couple committed suicide by consuming poison in Mirzapur Village of Rafinagar Union in Derai Upazila of the district on Sunday morning.

The deceased were Mahfuz, 20, and his wife Monika Begum, 18, of the village.
Mahfuz's father Azizur Rahman said that his wife and daughter-in-law had cooked and served food to the family members in the morning. After eating, he went to cut paddy in the haor. After coming back, he found his son and daughter-in-law lying sick after consuming poison.

Later, they were quickly taken to the Derai Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared Monika Begum dead. Mahfuz was treated in a serious condition and sent to the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital where he died undergoing treatment.

Derai Police Station Officer-in-Charge Enamul Haque Chowdhury said that the real reason for the incident will be known after investigation.
